The 2024 IEEE Conference on Telepresence
About the IEEE Telepresence Initiative
IEEE Telepresence is an IEEE Future Directions initiative launched in 2021 with a focus on advance telepresence technology that would enable a user’s remote presence at a different physical location: a) feeling as if being there, and b) having a similar effect as if being there – in appearance to others and in effectual action, via telerobotics.
IEEE Telepresence is creating a community for projects, events and activities on telepresence technologies – covering topics such as teleoperations – operating/manipulation equipment as if present in cabin/control room; Moving heavy equipment, driving agricultural machines, perform tele-medicine.

TELEPRESENCE 2024 will have a remote presence (virtual) component. We encourage in-person participation in Pasadena, but at the same time, authors with travel restrictions, will be approved for on-line participation in the virtual tracks. We will transmit live the keynotes, tutorials, and some of the sessions, in real time and with recordings. There are many benefits of being able to attend a conference in person, among the top being the ability to interact better with fellow researchers, to network, and establish collaborations, in an environment that is conducive to detachment from routine activities and immersion in science and technology, that fosters creativity. Nonetheless, travel and health considerations may prevent in-person author attendance, and our policy will be to grant paper presentation online. Our aim is to get the best papers, and do the best to accommodate the authors to attend in their best way for them. On-line non-authors can register without a special approval.
For authors who do not yet have publishable results but want to present work in progress, applications, and new projects that have recently received funding, and to facilitate early feedback and foster collaborations, as well as to allow invited speakers to summarize their talks, we will accept two-page abstracts, which will be published in the on-line conference proceedings available to registrants.
